Background

This is the documentation page for Vela WordPress Theme, where you will find about how to install and modify the theme to suit your needs after you purchase it. This theme is meant for personal blogs. The theme uses one twitter plugin and one custom field. It also has a theme Options page.

Extract and Activate the Theme

After you purchase the theme, extract it. Before you do anything else, be sure you have WordPress all set up and ready. Upload the vela_theme folder to your “themes” folder (within the “wp-content” folder). Next, upload the content of the plugins folder (not the entire plugins folder, just its content) into the “plugins” folder online (which you will find in the “wp-content” folder).

In your WordPress administration panel, go to Appearance >> Themes to activate the Vela theme.

And go to plugins and activate twitter plugin you’ve just uploaded. NOTE: this plugin is modified for Vela theme, so if you use another one you’ll get different result. If you don’t want that entire Twitter box part, just don’t activate plugin

Basic WordPress settings

If you haven’t changed your WordPress name etc, now you will learn how to do it. Go to WordPress admin -> settings -> Change blog title and tag line, save it. Then click reading also in settings menu and change number of posts (”Blog pages show at most”) to 3 as in demo (of course you can change it to what ever you want but we suggest 3 for this theme). Also good thing to do is to change permanent links to “pretty” ones. Click Permalinks in settings and select the structure you like the most (NOTE: Be sure your .htacces is writable!) Save everything.

Adding pages

For pages “Home”, “Sitemap” and “Archives” you will be using page template, so go write new page, fill in title but not the description and on the right choose from “Template” dropdown a template you are making at the moment. (for example “Home Page” for home etc…)

IMPORTANT: After you finish home page go to settings -> reading and for the front page choose home page you’ve just made and save it.

Other pages, like about, contact you just go write new page, fill it up with content and title as publish it. (don’t forget to publish previous pages, not just write them!) Also you should use page order on the right, that’s your order in main menu and footer.

Adding posts

For adding posts, there’s just one thing you should pay attention to, if you want to have small icons on home page recent articles you have to use custom field “image” with full path, for example http://www.sitename.com/image.jpg

All the rest is usual, go write new post, fill it up with content, choose category and publish it.

Theme option page

Go to Appereance -> Vela options, and fill it up with your content. Also here you will type in your twitter name after you have activated that plugin (step one) and choose one of the two background images. Save everything.

Change advertise images

Open advertisement.php and just change images and links, add few more, or delete or whatever.
